BLACK + BROWN is a monthly programming series that explores how Afro-diasporic traditions and experimental ideas engender conviviality, multidisciplinary learning, and transcommunal engagement.
Jarochicanos is a multi-generational collective from Chicago with a deep appreciation and love of the centuries-old music tradition from southern Veracruz, México, son jarocho. Since 2008, Jarochicanos have been gathering in Pilsen as a music and dance youth workshop for learning son jarocho that also builds and celebrates community. Additionally, the group provides instruction for Son Chiquitos, a bilingual music and arts immersion program for young children, and are the organizers of Talleres en la 18, free weekly sessions for learning to dance and play son jarocho in order to participate in community fandangos.
Admission is free. Refreshments will be served. Donations will be encouraged.
