Black Cinema House’s monthly featured artist series continues in May with dance crew The Era and filmmaker/visual artist Wills Glasspiegel. Visit BING every Thursday evening this month for a rotating line-up of short docs, music videos, and film portraits highlighting the power, energy and unique style of footwork, Chicago’s homegrown and world-renowned dance. The series culminates with a screening, workshop, performance and party on Thursday, May 26.
Founded on the South Side in 2014, The Era includes footwork dancers from esteemed battle cliques like Terra Squad and Goon Squad, as well as visual artists, documentarians and scholars. From MoMa PS-1 in New York to Battlegroundz on 87th Street in Chicago, the Era have won significant acclaim for their dancing and documentary films. The Era have collaborated with leading artists, including DJ Rashad and Chance the Rapper. The Era also make music, animations, and print media with dance at the center of their creative vision. The Era is dedicated to changing the perception of dance by bringing Chicago footwork into focus.

A footwork evening in three parts starting at 6PM, please arrive early as space is limited.
Part I: a series of screenings and conversations about footwork filmmaking with The Era’s creative directors, Brandon “Chief Manny” Calhoun and Wills Glasspiegel.
Part II: a panel conversation about Chicago footwork with esteemed local artists DJ Spinn, Litebulb, DJ Clent, Traxman, Ant Brown, RP Boo and others.
Part III: a short footwork workshop, performance and party hosted by the The Era and Teklife.
